Sturgis East Parking Permit Protocol 2025-2026
Please read carefully if you plan on driving to Sturgis starting this Fall!
Over the past five years, the Town of Barnstable has been directing more attention to the parking situation in downtown Hyannis. Sturgis continues to work closely with town officials to provide solid options for our students who choose to drive themselves to school.
I am happy to report that Sturgis school administration met with town officials and was able to secure 80 parking permits for the Red Cross and North Street lots for this academic year. There is a $75 fee accompanying each permit. The permits will be issued for the following;
- The parking lot adjacent to the Red Cross Building (the “Red Cross Lot”) – 40 permits
- The parking lot located at Little Sandwich Shop (the “North St Lot”) – 40 permits
In the spirit of our agreement with the town and support of our parking protocol, it is our expectation that all Sturgis East students must have a permit to park in the Red Cross lot or the North St lot for any amount of time.
- All permits issued to students are lot-specific. This means that you must park in your assigned lot or you will receive a ticket from the town. For clarification: If you have a Red Cross Lot permit (for example), and you decide to park in the North Street Lot, you will be ticketed.
- No paper permits will be distributed. The town will be recording each license plate number and corresponding lot permit based on the information submitted via your Google form. As a result, your permit will not be active, and you will be ticketed if you drive a car other than the one on record. If you change cars, let me know and I can update your file on record with the town.
Below is the plan for accommodating students who wish to secure a permit to park in one of the two lots identified by the town.
Please note: Carpooling is defined as driving at least one other student to school at least 3 days per week. Students must list the names of the members of the carpool that they will be driving to school on their parking permission request form. Carpool passengers will be reviewed by the administrative team. Any student that is listed as a “member of a carpool” will not be allowed to enter the student parking lottery on their own.
Sturgis East will hold a lottery in August for any student who wishes to secure a parking permit. The lottery will be random, but the following descriptors will determine the order of selection:
- Seniors who carpool
- Seniors who drive alone
- Juniors who carpool
- Juniors who drive alone
WHAT’S NEXT?
- Fill out this Google form if you want to purchase a permit for next year.
- Please note: If you do not have your license yet or will not get your license by December 2025, you should not be applying for a permit. You may apply for any remaining permits when you do get your license. If no permits remain, you will be directed to where you can park off campus.
- Another reminder will be sent out mid-summer, but late submissions (after August 14th) will be put at the end of the lottery, regardless of class standing and carpooling status.
- Submit the $75 fee before the lottery. Payment can be made in the following ways:
- Online via PayPal link here (hit send to pay the money). IMPORTANT: IF YOU USE PAYPAL, PLEASE INDICATE THE NAME OF THE STUDENT AND THEIR CAMPUS (EAST) ON YOUR PAYMENT
- Give a check made out to Sturgis Charter Public School to Mrs. Gauthier.
Please note: Any student who has not paid the fee and who has not filled out the Google form will not be included in the lottery and will not be eligible for a permit.
**The parking lottery will be held on Friday, August 15th**
You will be notified of your permitted spot via email by Wednesday, August 20th.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gauthier, Assistant Principal, Sturgis East
