Sturgis West Student Parking Permit Protocol 2026-2027

There will be two parking lotteries this year in an attempt to allow more students an opportunity to have a parking space on campus.  All parking spaces awarded in August will be assigned to students through the first half of the school year (through midterm exams).

A second lottery will take place during midterm exams for spaces during the second half of the year.

Both lotteries will follow the following guidelines:

  • Students who request permission to drive their cars to Campus will be placed in a lottery if the number of students requesting permission to park exceeds the number of on-site student-designated parking spaces.
  • The highest priority will be given to senior students who carpool with other Sturgis students (this means driving at least one other student to school at least 3 days per week).  Students must list the names of the members of the carpool that they will be driving to school on their parking permission request form. Carpool passengers will be reviewed by the administrative team.
  • Any student who is listed as a “member of a carpool” will NOT be allowed to enter the student parking lottery on their own.
  • Overflow parking for students who do not receive a spot on campus will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis until the lot is full.  The overflow parking lot parking option is the front lot (off West Main St.) of the Cape Cod Melody Tent.

*Please note that ALL students applying for a parking spot MUST have a valid driver’s license, access to an automobile by the first day of school, Wednesday, September 2nd, and submission of the required $100 Parking Fee (see page below). In addition, any student who has previously signed for a student parking pass must ensure that either the pass has been turned in or the student has paid the $5 replacement charge.  Finally, any student who requests a lottery spot as a Carpooler MUST be off their JOL by Wednesday, September 2nd.

Priority for a parking spot on campus will be given to:

  • Seniors who carpool
  • Seniors who drive alone
  • Juniors who carpool
  • Juniors who drive alone

**NEW THIS YEAR** 

If you have signed up for and received a parking space as part of a carpool arrangement, both you and your listed carpooler must come to the office together when signing for your parking pass.

If it is determined that you are not actually carpooling, your parking spot will be forfeited and given to the next driver on the waiting list.

Entering and Exiting

All students driving to and from Campus will be directed to enter from the Scudder Avenue entrance, and all will exit from the Scudder Avenue entrance. No student drivers should be driving through the “crosswalk” at the entrance to the building during the morning commute.  Failure to follow either the entrance/exit policy and/or parking in a place that is not designated for your vehicle may result in the loss of parking privileges on campus which may be returned only at the discretion of the Principal.

Students will not be allowed to park on the street or driveways in the surrounding community or at the Cape Cod Melody Tent unless given special permission by the Assistant Principal.  Vehicles violating this rule may be towed.  Students who violate this rule are also subject to disciplinary measures at school.

Applying for a Parking Space

The due date for all forms is Tuesday, August 25th by 11:59 pm.  An email will be sent out by the end of the day on August 28th indicating where students should park.

Making a Parking Space Payment

Due to the increase in student drivers and the cost associated with obtaining additional parking spaces, Sturgis will be requiring ALL student drivers to submit a yearly parking fee of $100 for a Sturgis Parking Pass.  This fee must be paid before a pass will be assigned.  Students who have not paid the fee will NOT be eligible for the on-campus lottery.  All drivers, regardless of whether they receive an on-campus parking space or are given permission to park at the Cape Cod Melody Tent, must pay this parking fee before receiving a parking pass.

Students who do NOT receive an on-campus spot will be allowed to park at the upper lot of the Melody Tent (off West Main St. entrance).  Students parking at the Melody Tent must follow the following guidelines:

  • Do NOT park in the handicapped parking spaces unless your vehicle has the appropriate permit.
  • EVERY vehicle must have a Sturgis parking pass which will be displayed in a visible position through the windshield.
  • All vehicles must be removed from the parking lot by 4:00.
    • The gate will be unlocked in the AM and locked again at 4:00 – Your vehicle will be locked in if not removed.
    • If students are leaving school early for an athletic event or staying after school for other reasons, students MUST move their vehicle to the school parking lot before 4:00.
  • Be respectful of the Melody Tent property
    • Do not leave trash outside of your vehicle.
    • Do not enter any part of the Melody Tent property other than the parking lot.

An email will be sent out before school begins, indicating the spot where each student should park.
