Sturgis East Parking Permit Protocol 2026-2027

Please read carefully if you plan on driving to Sturgis starting this Fall! 

Sturgis continues to work closely with the town of Barnstable to provide options for our students who choose to drive themselves to school.

Sturgis school administration met with town officials and was able to secure 80 parking permits for the 2026-2027 academic year. There is a $100 fee accompanying each permit. The permits will be issued for:

  • The parking lot adjacent to the Red Cross Building (the “Red Cross Lot”)       
  • The parking lot located behind the Cordial Eye (the “North Street Lot”)

Important details:

  • These permits do not guarantee a parking spot will be available each day in the assigned parking lot. Parking in these Barnstable town lots are public and operate on a first come first serve basis. These permits, however, do guarantee that when you do park in the lot your permit is issued for, you are not subject to the town’s 6-hour parking limit.
  • All permits issued to students are lot-specific. This means, for example, that if you have a Red Cross permit, and you can not find an available spot there, and you park in a different town lot (North Street included), you will be subject to the town’s 6-hour limit in any other Barnstable public lot.
  • If you are assigned a North Street Permit, you should not park in the Red Cross Lot as there are limited spaces. 
  • The Town of Barnstable has informed us that they do “chalk” their timed public lots to monitor the 6-hour time limit. If a vehicle is found within the same parking lot that they do not have a permit for for more than 6 hours in a 24-hour, 1-day time period, it will be subject to a town parking ticket. All Sturgis students are responsible for any parking ticket they may receive from the town. 

If there is a day or time period you are driving a different vehicle to school for any reason, you need to reach out as soon as you know of the change to Mrs. Lombardozzi. Please have the new vehicle’s license plate information available and Mrs. Lombardozzi will provide you with next steps so that you do not get a ticket.

FAQ

How is the parking lottery run?

Sturgis East will hold a parking permit lottery in August for any student who has completed the required steps by the deadline detailed in the application.  The lottery will be random, but the following descriptors will determine the order of selection:

  1. Seniors who carpool**
  2. Seniors who drive alone
  3. Juniors who carpool**
  4. Juniors who drive alone

**Carpooling is defined as driving at least one other student to school at least 3 days per week. Students must list the names of the members of the carpool that they will be driving to school on their parking permission request form. Carpool passengers will be reviewed by the administrative team. Any student who is listed as a “member of a carpool” will not be allowed to enter the student parking lottery on their own.   

Applicants will be notified before the start of school the results of the lottery. Sticker permits will be disturbed at the start of the school year for students to affix to their car windshield. 

NOTE: Stickers will not be issued until the student provides the license plate information of the car the student will be driving to school.

How do I complete an application?

You must fully complete BOTH steps below, in order, by Friday, August 21st at 11:59pm to enter the parking lottery:

  1. Fill out this Google form.
    –  If you do not know which car you will be driving to school (and don’t know license plate number) at the time of filling out this form, indicate “unsure” in that field. Mrs. Lombardozzi will reach out before permits are assigned to get the license plate information via email.
    – Please note: If you do not have your license yet or will not get your license by December 1, 2026, you should not be applying for a permit. You may apply for any remaining permits when you do get your license. If no permits remain, you will be given information about town parking lots.
  2. Pay the $100 fee online at the payment link here.
    –  IMPORTANT: Please indicate the STUDENT’s name under the “Full Name”.

All applicants will be notified of lottery results by Friday, August 28th.
