Wednesday, October 14
This year we are offering the PSAT (practice SAT) for our sophomores and juniors. Cost is included in the CAPS fee (see bottom of page). There is no need to register through the College Board: Sturgis facilitates the PSAT testing process.
It is important that students are on time that day. As Sturgis anticipates that all sophomores and juniors will be participating, no 10th or 11th grade classes are scheduled that morning. In addition to receiving a Guide to the PSAT, the week prior to the PSAT the Guidance Teams at both East and West will be hosting lunch time sessions for students on what to expect. Students should have two #2 pencils and a calculator with them the day of the PSAT. As this is a practice test, these scores are not shared with colleges. Score reports will be mailed home mid-December/January.
Free ACT Practice Test: A New Option for Juniors
Friday, December 11
Over the years we have learned that some of our students have come to regard the ACT college admissions test as a welcome alternative/addition to the SAT. In order for students to experience the similarities and differences between the two tests, we are offering our juniors an ACT practice test. Like the SAT, the ACT is accepted at all colleges and universities.
The test will be administered by Kaplan Test Prep. While December 11th is a half day for Sturgis, juniors opting to take the ACT practice test, should bring two #2 pencils, a calculator and a lunch with them that day. Testing will begin promptly at 12:00 noon. As the test will run until 4:30 PM, please make arrangements for transportation. Scores will not be shared with colleges, nor will they be shared with ACT, Inc. Kaplan Test Prep prepares the score report for students.
To register your child, e-mail email@example.com. In the subject line please note your child’s campus (East or West), ACT and your child’s name (last name first): e.g. East, ACT, Smith, John.

- How to think critically about campus and academic life.
- How to ask questions when visiting schools that are on their list.
- How to explore factors that might differentiate colleges.
This is a professional day, a half-day for students. No classes will be planned for juniors on the day of the trip. Due to an anticipated late return, please plan alternative afternoon transportation.
College Financing Seminar

Parents of Sturgis East and Sturgis West seniors are encouraged to attend a presentation on College Financing. The seminar is offered through MEFA (The Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority), the Commonwealth’s resource on planning, saving and paying for college.
